In case you missed the news, I’m
going to be the opening keynote keynote speaker for TBEX Asia 2016!
The conference takes place on October 15th and 16th in Manilla,
Philippines. If you know someone who should attend, please pass
along the link to registration. And if you’re going, please let me
know!
You’ll notice there isn’t a guest on the show
again. We’re OK with that. Like I said last time, we’re not holding
stories hostage until we get a guest lined up. In fact, my goal is
to give you more than a single episode a week, because we’ve got a
backload of stories. And why the hell shouldn’t we share them with
you, right? Speaking of that…
You
may recall from the flurry of photos, silly Snapchats and other
various missives that we took a week long vacation in early July to
lovely Khao Lak, Thailand. We, along with our friends Eric and
Amber from With Husband In Tow, were invited down by the
J.W. Marriott Khao Lak
to sample their hospitality,
accommodations, and check out the surrounding area. Well… we did a
lot of the first two. It’s the perfect property for when the rain
keeps you from doing too much exploring. There’s a bar around every
corner (not really, but it sure felt that way). Which is good if
you want a drink but bad if you think tequila makes for a good
sunscreen.
But that didn’t stop us from taking full
advantage of the 3 km pool that winds its way through the property.
At one point, the pool features a waterslide, where Sheila
traumatized small children. No, not because she was playing the
part of the mean big kid-- she’s a teacher, after all. I’m talking
about the poor combination of high-speed and water friction which
might have led to a wardrobe malfunction which might haunt the kids
later in life. I’m not saying that’s what happened. Though I am
apparently typing it.
But
that’s not the story we’re telling on the show. Today’s story is
the tale of my 8 km mountain bike trek to the Rainbow waterfall.
Our gracious host, Hanna, opted to keep me company for the journey.
Well, that was the theory anyhow. She’s apparently allergic to
torrential rainfall and turned back not 300 meters into the ride.
And oy vey did it rain! Which happens in the raining season. Which
is why I had a dry bag. Which the others on the tour didn’t. Which
meant there was one phone that didn’t get ruined. Mine. I don’t
want to spoil anything, but man… was that a wet, wild day. In
hindsight, I should have joined the other three at the pool for
drinks. Again.
Thanks as always to our fantastic sponsor, TravelSmith. I know know how fast “quick-dry” clothing dries, as I was fully decked out in TravelSmith-provided clothes for that swim -- er... ride -- up to the waterfall. Hooray for no wet, soggy clothes in my luggage!
And for those who listen every episode but still haven’t signed up to get postcards from us… what the heck, people? Every month, you’ll get a postcard from us from abroad. It’s simple. And cheap. So seriously sign up today! The support of our patrons really goes a long way in helping us keep pumping out content from abroad!
Music for our show is graciously provided by the fantastic band Velella Velella. They make killer tunes, and you should buy all of their stuff. It’s fabulous!
Want more ShEvo in your life? Well… you’ve got options. Snapchat, Facebook, Flickr... those are just the beginning. Check out ShEvo.wtf for links to your preferred listening post. We’ve quite a few!
