It’s not hard to find good food in Thailand. But to find the really great places, you need to eat with a local. Hands down the best way to do this is with a food tour by Taste of Thailand. Which is good, because plenty of funny things happened to her when she was traipsing around the world. She’s collected the best of them -- and they are seriously funny -- in her book It's Only the Himalayas: And Other Tales of Miscalculation from an Overconfident Backpacker. No, I’m not one to recommend travel memoirs, but in this case, I’ll make an exception. I read the whole thing in two days. It’s awesome.
I’m looking forward to the second edition, because there are lots of stories that didn’t make it in the book. Like this one, where she was pressed into tattooing some random stranger’s face in Central America. I mean, if it’s going to happen somewhere… I guess it might as well be Guatamala? Oh, and did I mention that Sue is not a tattoo artist? Yeah. That sorta makes the story.
